Dr Rasheed Mumini
Anatomic Pathologist
Professional Experience
Rasheed Mumini Wemimoh hails from Iseyin, Oyo state. He is currently a consultant in Anatomic Pathology at the Clina Lancet Laboratories of Nigeria where he handled varieties of surgical specimens. These specimens are grossed based on the guidelines adopted from the College of American Pathologists' grossing manual and the College of Nigerian Pathologists. He also lectures at the Federal University of Dutse and teaches Medical students, and anatomy students, medical laboratory science students, as well as coordinating and supervising quality control in the laboratory. He was a visiting specialist at Leah Medical Centre in Ilorin, Kwara State, and serves as visiting specialist at Bridge Bio-Tech Limited in Ilorin.
Dr. Rasheed is a bonafide member/associate of several professional bodies in Nigeria and abroad. A few to mention include the European Society of Pathology (2022), the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP, 2020), the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA, 2010), and several others. In addition, he participated in the biannual External Quality Assurance (EQA) organized by the Nigeria National Diagnostics Histopathology EQA/TSL workshop/WADIAP conference, which was based on systemic pathology like breast cases, Gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and Dermatopathology.
Dr. Rasheed showed interest in science from an early stage, frequently attending school of science camps with high commitment and dedication. He was known as the boy who was always taking notes and he discovered that he had an aptitude for research and discovery.
He received his undergraduate degree in Medicine (MBBS) from the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Oyo, Nigeria. His FMCPath in Pathology was obtained from the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria and membership of the West African College of Physicians in Laboratory Medicine (MWACP Lab Med).
Dr. Rasheed has carried out varieties of research in the medical field, and he currently has many ongoing research. Apart from his research interest, Dr. Rasheed is also known for his passion for giving presentations and awareness about cancer control and prevention with an emphasis on breast and cervical cancer at General Hospitals, secondary schools, National Youth Service Corps, and police headquarters.
He has worked together with a multi-disciplinary team of pathologists in publishing several journals. During this time, he built up his research and publication profile, both nationally and internationally. Notably, he has been actively participating in a lot of academic and scientific meetings organized by the International Academy of Pathology, European Society of Pathology, American Society of Clinical Pathology, West African College of Physicians, National Postgraduate Medical College, and others. Not only that but also participated in the last concluded 16th Annual Scientific Conference and all fellows Congress (EKO AKETE 2022) at EKO Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
He participates more often than not in BIO Ventures for Global Health African Access Initiative Via Workplace where the micrograph of the hematoxylin and eosin slides with corresponding available immunohistochemical panels will be shared. Each participant will submit his/her opinions by describing the histomorphologic features of the lesions and diagnosis. The cases would be reviewed and the final diagnosis would be communicated to all the attendees. In addition, he also engages in online updates organized by the American Society of Cytopathology and GI Hepatology ECHO of sub-Saharan Africa session.
In addition, he participated in a special lecture series and HIV – Associated Malignancies organized by BIO Ventures for Global Health (BVGH), from June 27 through July 1, 2022, Advanced Pathology of Solid tumours Digital Training Program organized by African Access Initiative (AAI), May 26 through July 21, 2022
Global cytology Education Program organized by the American Society of Cytopathology on 08/09/2022.
Finally, he has contributed to the regional and community service in Jigawa state and its environment through the presentation of several topics on cancer awareness at several forums, and of them is the role of a Pathologist in qualitative and personalized care of patients, 4th quarter CME, Nigerian Medical Association, Jigawa State, Nigeria, on 18th of December, 2021.
